New Requirements for Cattle Crossing State Lines from USDA APHIS

A new federal order was implemented earlier this week that affects lactating cows moving across state lines. The federal order requires mandatory testing of dairy cattle before they are able to cross state lines. Any lactating cow who either tests positive, comes from a herd that tests positive, or is exhibiting signs of Influenza A are barred from moving out of state for 30 days. Lactating cattle moving from non-positive herds will still need a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) and a negative test from an approved National Animal Health Network Laboratory (NAHLN).
