Biosecurity Resources Available: HPAI in Cattle

The Center for Dairy Excellence shared the following text with Pennsylvania veterinarians about biosecurity in cattle due to the HPAI outbreak:

Recently, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania announced a quarantine order and guidance document on what would happen if a farm is confirmed positive in Pennsylvania with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, technically known as Bovine Influenza A. Those documents are both attached. One of the requirements for milk movement will be that the farm has Step 3 of the FARM EveryDay biosecurity plan and Pennsylvania’s Supplement to that plan completed.

The Center and Penn State are providing printed copies of those documents, along with Steps 1 and 2, biosecurity signs, a visitors log, and posters to farms at no cost. A copy of the booklet compiled with the Steps 1, 2, and 3, along with the Supplement piece, is linked below. If veterinarians would like to order quantities of these materials to give to their clients, they can order them by emailing Allen Hess on the team at ahess@centerfordairyexcellence.org. Please let the Center know if bulk copies of those materials are desired to distribute to clients.

Open Houses | Producer Information

Penn State Extension is hosting open houses in seven extension offices across Pennsylvania to help dairy farmers complete these materials. They have a limited number of resource kits to give producers who come to those open houses. Farms can also take the kits they receive to the open house to get help in completing it. The Open House dates are listed below.
